Doing yearly maintenance of Michigan Track and Football legend Willis Ward’s grave today. I do this once a year. He’s buried out at Detroit Memorial Cemetery, a historic Black cemetery that is oddly, in Warren, Michigan, about six miles North of the Detroit City Limits.
Anyway, it’s one of those cemeteries that has flat, ground-level tombstones, so consequently about 70% of the markers have been lost to time. I won’t let that happen to Mr. Ward.
I need to tell somebody out there where exactly this marker is so it can be kept up long after I’m gone. It’s important.
